c.1940 Marx, Wee Scottie in Original Box

c.1940 Marx, Wee Scottie in Original Box

Outstanding example of Marx's very popular tin litho clockwork pooch. Comes complete with its original box and Marx key. Several variations were produced from 1938 through 1941 (all with wooden front legs) and again in 1952 (with metal front legs). The version of the Marx logo found on this toy, plus Scottie's lithographed red, yellow, and blue sweater blanket indicate that it was produced after 1938, but before 1941.

Scottie uses two large steel disk wheels underneath the base to move him forward. Two wooden rear wheels constrain him to a large circular pattern. The front legs alternately move in and out, but barely make contact with the ground. Scottie's rubber ears and tail are original. The key is the correct die cast Marx key, but it appears that the lower section of the handle wasn't formed properly. It still works great!

The box has a finely detailed black, white and red illustration of a running Scottish Terrier. The name of the toy appears above the drawing in large block lettering and on the end flaps.

Size: 5" long x 4" tall.
